Disposable medical mask can be reused after blowing for 30 minutes

Disposable medical mask

In the study of respirator regeneration, an interdisciplinary experimental study combining virology and environmental hygiene is explored: the disposable medical respirator after use is wrapped in a household fresh-keeping bag, and can be used again after 30 minutes of treatment by household electric hair dryer, which does not affect its original filtering and retention effect, and can inactivate the contaminated virus.

In the virus experiment, live influenza virus was used to simulate coronavirus. In the safety laboratory, the virus of cell culture was quantitatively dropped on the mask, causing artificial pollution. After treatment with oven or thermoelectric blower, the virus on the mask surface was taken for cell culture, and the cytopathy caused by the virus was observed and the viral nucleic acid was detected quantitatively.

The results showed that there was no significant effect on the filtration and retention function of the mask at 56 in the oven and 30 minutes after the heat blowing; after 30 minutes of the heat blowing, the virus was almost completely inactivated, which was equivalent to the control samples without the virus. However, the virus could not be completely inactivated in the oven at 56 for 30 minutes because the specimen was wrapped with tin box. Therefore, the research shows that the disposable medical mask can be regenerated after being treated with electric blower for 30 minutes without affecting its original function.

In addition, the "high grade" of hair dryer is measured, which can reach 65 in one and a half minutes. It can almost verify the possibility of regeneration of disposable medical masks after being used and treated with hair dryer for 30 minutes.
